Wide eyes

Here's Loyal Reader Number Twelve once again grinning for the camera, in better focus this time. Isn't she just the cutest little thing? Photo courtesy of Loyal Reader Number Five.

Happy Halloween! Extremely short shrift once again today. We spent Halloween evening at Loyal Reader Number Twenty-Four's family's house. We just got back and it's already time for bed. No Wednesday meetings tonight - it was the fifth Wednesday of the month and everybody wanted to be home tonight to hand out candy anyway.

As mentioned previously, I had to pick up donuts this morning, so I drove the Miata. Worried about the traditionally wretched Halloween afternoon traffic, I left the office at about 3:15 and got home at about 5:15, so I stayed right on par. Pulled into the garage just as the family was getting ready to get in the car for our visit. Yet another perfect afternoon for open-air motoring.

It's official - I'm taking the Honda back. Hopefully, it will work out. If not, we'll just switch again. I'll probably start tomorrow. Or maybe the next day.

And now it's time for bed. See you tomorrow.

I had a great deal of fun haloween night. I'm very glad we were able to do that.
Last night I went to sword-fighting and fought in armor. I'm a tiny bit the worse for wear, but overall doing very well, and I had a ton of fun.

Well don't I just have the cutest baby in the world?!! I will also send you a couple of pictures of her in her bat costume for Halloween. It was a bit too small, so she only wore it for some pictures, but the pictures turned out to be fantastic!

We also felt the earthquake the other day pretty strongly in Daly City. Gary said things were really shaking at the apartment, and he and Mia actually went to stand in a doorway. I was on my way to the store, and when I got out of my car, it kind of felt like when you're on a parking garage deck and someone drives by, so I subconsciously thought that's what was happening because my door was swaying slightly. Then I got out of the car and some lady was saying to everyone who walked by, "Did you feel the earthquake?" I thought she was crazy, but then when I got home, Gary said it had been pretty serious. Weird!

Apparently the epicenter was between San Jose and Milpitas, so that's pretty close. I had been a little bit anxious about experiencing our first earthquake here in the bay area, but I didn't even notice it, so I guess it went pretty well. I'm surprised that it was so strong out in Lardville.

Reader in forest

Here's Loyal Reader Number Two in the forest at Calaveras Big Trees State Park.

Greetings from the train! I checked my ticket and it's been two months since I last rode. My boss still isn't crazy about the fact I need to leave on a schedule, but I just respond with a completely logical, unimpeachable "so what?" Now who can argue with that?

The entire rail portion of the trip this morning was in the dark. The sun was just coming up as we got off the train and onto the bus. And it's already down this afternoon. Winter. Sigh. At least it will be better next week when Daylight Savings Time is finally over.

Speaking of which, several people were an hour late to church last Sunday. They all had alarm clocks that automatically go into and out of DST. Since they changed the spring forward/fall back days this year, millions of alarm clocks are goofed up for three weeks a year. Strangely, my Atomic Clock didn't change. Why? Who knows?

I'm listening to a Fibber McGee and Molly radio show on the iPod. Pretty good, but not as good as I expected based on past experience. I'll give it a few episodes before I decide for sure. Coming up soon: The Shadow.

I don't think I ever mentioned the last part of the trip to Michigan. It was the Loyal Mother's seventy-fifth birthday, and my sister had invited me to surprise her. She was surprised. As discussed previously, I attended my nephew's fiancee's bridal shower (my first one!) on Saturday morning, Loyal Reader Number Sixteen's Halloween party on Saturday night (I won the costume contest!), and the Loyal Mother's birthday party (another surprise!) on Sunday evening. All were enjoyable. Monday morning, LRN16, my other non-Loyal-Reader sister, the Loyal Mother, and I went to Greenfield Village for a few hours. The weather was perfect - sunny and in the low 70's - and we had a great time. I'll have a picture or two to post soon.

The flight out was uneventful - made the connection in Chicago just fine. On the way home, though, we were seriously delayed leaving Detroit and I missed the connection to Sacramento. There were no more flights that night, but I was able to slip onto a San Francisco-bound plane. Got home at about 1:00 AM Tuesday morning. And my luggage made it at about 6:00 that afternoon.

Update from home: Just as I was getting ready to post this, an earthquake hit. It wasn't the biggest one in the world, but it really shook us hard for a few seconds. Things were really swaying there. Fortunately, nothing seems to have fallen (all those shelves in the garage that I've been meaning to anchor to the wall are still up and not on top of the cars, for example) and the water's still in the pool. Very unexpected event.

That's about it for today. See you on Halloween.

The pool still has water in it, so I guess it made it through the earthquake. That's a good thing.

Mark and I didn't feel the earthquake at all. We were either in our swordfighting class (which has a very thick, large concrete floor) or in the car. Oh well.

Fuzzy reader

Here's Loyal Reader Number Twelve feeling pretty happy. Fuzzy but very cute photo courtesy of Loyal Reader Number Five.

Short Shrift yet again tonight. We had a nice long Home Evening and it's past time for bed. Good lesson (Moses), good activity (Perudo), and good treat (freshly-baked banana cake). Also good music (Book of Mormon Stories and something else I chose but can't remember).

Work is back to normal. I'm hideously behind on my emails, so I've decided I absolutely MUST ride the train and start catching back up. Starting tomorrow. I have to bring donuts to work on Wednesday, so I can't really ride the train that day, but I can on Thursday.

I'm still trying to decide whether to start driving the Honda again or not. I'll probably end up doing it for a little while. Loyal Reader Number Four is enjoying it, but it's hard to fit Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two in there with her. Also, the allowed mileage is not quite large enough for her. I can leave it at the station all day, but can't drive it to work more than one or two days a week. However, with the availability of the train and the Miata, I could handle that now.

Time for bed. See you tomorrow.

Hiking reader

Here's Loyal Reader Number Two on our hike through the grove of big trees at Calaveras Big Trees State Park.

Wonders of Blogger, as you can probably guess, since the above picture was taken at the campout on Friday. We had a great time - the park was beautiful (respectable fall colors and spectacular Sequoias), the weather was great (warm and sunny during the day and chilly at night), the company was nice (we went with our friends the Crocketts), the trailer worked fine (the battery was a little weak that last morning, but that's because the nearly empty propane bottle became the completely empty bottle sometime during the night and the fan ran non-stop for an undisclosed period of time), and the food was excellent (including a really great dutch oven dinner, taken from a crock pot recipe for French Dip). We may make that park a fall camping tradition. We may also make Big Sur a spring camping tradition. No summer camping traditions yet. We need to check out some new campgrounds too.

We have yet another new Loyal Reader! Let's all give a hearty Morrowlife welcome to Erica, Loyal Reader Number Thirteen's Loyal Spouse. She signed up during last week's trip to Michigan (trip details coming Real Soon Now). Send us a picture, Loyal Reader Number Twenty-Five, and you'll have your own Very Special Morrowlife Day. In the meantime, you can bask in the warm glow of seeing your name right over there on the right, on the actual internet!

Life is back to normal. See you on Monday.

Has morrowlife disappeared?

Nope. I've just been out of town and then had my Wednesday evening meetings last night. Right now, we're on our way out the door to Calaveras Big Trees State Park for a weekend campout.

So there have been no posts. We'll be home on Saturday afternoon, so I'll plan to use the Wonders of Blogger to catch up.

See you then.

Giggle

Here's Loyal Reader Number Twelve smiling for the camera a couple of months ago.

Wonders of Blogger today. I didn't get hooked up to the internet until this (Saturday) morning. I wasn't sure I'd make it at all.

Greetings from Michigan! I'm having a really nice time visiting with my family here. My mom was surprised to see me. Pleasantly, I hope. I attended my first bridal shower this morning, for my nephew Joe's bride-to-be, Jen. Everybody had a nice time. We had a nice brunch, played games (I didn't win, in spite of the slight advantage I got by copying other partygoers' papers), and opened presents.

Took a short nap in the early afternoon and then got ready for Loyal Readers Numbers Sixteen's and Eighteen's Halloween party. Lots of family members were there and we had lots of fun. Tomorrow morning it's early church and then back to Royal Oak in the evening for my mother's birthday party. I'm not sure what's on tap for Monday, but I am sure it will be enjoyable.

And then I fly home on Monday evening. I should get home shortly before midnight. Tuesday ought to be a sleepy day at work. Sigh.

That's about it for tonight. Love to the family. See you on Monday.

Bird attack

Here's Loyal Reader Number Two a couple of years ago being viciously attacked by a small flock of highly-dangerous birds. Shades of Hitchcock. That other guy there was desperately trying to scare those bad boys away, but with little success. Scary situation.

Another night of short shriftness. It's already 10:00 and I'm doing a little traveling over the extended weekend, so I must rest. Trip description in an upcoming post when I have more time. Friday and Monday posts may not happen - it depends on the availability of an internet connection. You have been warned.

Good commutes in both directions again today - slightly less than par morning and night. I didn't drive the Miata at all this week - it looked like it might rain every day. It did rain a little early in the week, but the last couple of days turned out quite nice, especially today. Sigh. Next week looks pretty good too, so I might get to do a little open-air motoring then.

Although I'm working an extremely short week next week. As mentioned above, I won't be returning to work until Tuesday, and I'm taking Thursday and Friday off for a little family camping trip. Bloggage will definitely be non-existent those days. I fear for the mental health and stability of my Loyal Readers under such conditions. When you have two dozen people (well, in reality not all of the Loyal Readers are very loyal, but there are at least a few, anyway) depending on your keen insights and biting wit every weekday, you have Certain Responsibilities. Try to survive, Loyal Readers. I'll be back.

But not for now. See you either tomorrow, Monday, or Tuesday.

Concert goers

Here are Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two and several strangers at an organ concert. LRN2 played shortly after (or possibly before) this picture was taken.

Quick post tonight - I have to leave for my meeting in 22 minutes.

The commute time finally shortened up a bit today - both ends of the trip were about five minutes under par (defined as 120 minutes), including the stop for gas and a car wash this morning. It's about time is all I can say - it seems like there's been a problem every morning for weeks.

Otherwise, situation normal. The house has gotten quiet these past few days. We had been hoping to see Loyal Reader Number Twelve's first step before she left but, alas, it was not to be. She was really close but not yet ready to risk it. I hope her parents let us know when it happens.

I've been listening to more old-time radio shows. As mentioned before, I'm particularly enjoying Nero Wolfe with Sidney Greenstreet. Today I heard a couple of old Blondie shows - they're almost always fun but the quality of many of the recordings is bad enough that I end up skipping them out of frustration at not being able to understand what anybody is saying. I heard several Jack Benny shows this week too - they're all pretty good. He wasn't a caricature of himself back then like he became after the start of the television era. Less corny, more funny. I have several other shows waiting to be heard, and there are hundreds if not thousands more available on the internet. One of the best places to find them is on the Internet Archive. It's also a good place to find books, although probably not as good as Gutenberg. In fact, it's a good place to find a lot of cool stuff. Like this. Or this.

Time to go. See you tomorrow.

Rock hole

Here's a big hole in the rock in the waterfall at Clark's Fork, apparently carved out by the water itself. The interesting thing is that, though water is continuously pouring into this hole, the water level never seems to rise. Where does it go?

We have a new Loyal Reader! Let's all give our typical hearty welcome to Moriah, Loyal Reader Number Twenty-Four. LRN24's name is officially over there on the right. As soon as we get a picture, you'll have your own Very Special Morrowlife Day. Wow!

As promised yesterday, let's talk about the weekend. The big news, of course, is that Loyal Readers Numbers Five, Six, and Twelve got moved into their apartment. It's a really nice little place in Daly City. The setting is green and very pretty, the building is nice, and the area looks quite pleasant. There is an unusually high number of cemeteries in the neighborhood, but they turn out to be pretty good neighbors. Quiet, anyway.

The closest cemetery is interesting - it's just for Asian people. The gravestones are in Chinese and are unique and pretty. The town is rumored to be foggy and cold all the time. I guess the Loyal Readers will find out for themselves. Let us know, Loyal Readers!

Anyway, we miss the Loyal Readers, but we're glad to have things back to normal for both families.

The move took longer than expected, so we were late to our friend Danell's surprise birthday party. We had a nice time anyway, and the Party People were deprived of our company for only about 45 minutes.

Sunday, I substitute taught a Sunday School class. It went fine and turned out to be a more interesting discussion than I had expected. Otherwise, the day was pretty much taken up with meetings and, umm, more meetings. And a couple of meals. Not that that's a bad thing. It was a quiet, restful day.

And I need to get to sleep already. See you tomorrow.

Campground road

Here's the road through the campground at Clark's Fork. That was just the prettiest place ever.

Extremely short shrift tonight. I'll have to report on the weekend tomorrow. Reason: we went to the local corn maze this evening. I stopped there on my way home from work and met the family. We had a really nice time. It was cool and kind of windy, but we wore jackets and were reasonably comfortable.

We went through the haunted house, rode the scarecrow ride (tractor-pulled cars with bleacher seating on them going through the corn, viewing about 86 scarecrows donated by local elementary schools and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops), walked through the gigantic corn maze (actually, it was one of two gigantic mazes), and watched Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two ride the go-karts. Human-powered go-karts, that is. They had a great time there, but Loyal Reader Number Four and I were happy to just watch.

We also had Moriah with us. She is, strangely enough, not a Loyal Reader. Very serious character flaw, that. Must look into that problem. Anyway, she rode the go-karts too.

We saw the Young Single Adult ward members there, along with our friend (and Loyal Reader Number One's employer) Bob. I was extremely satisfied to learn that Danny, a young man who was baptized several months back, was there. He's still active in the church and looked like he was having a great time. His family situation isn't exactly supportive, so I'm delighted he's still with us.

Congrats to Loyal Reader Number Three for catching the Coach_Z reference in yesterday's post. That's excellent tribal knowledge.

Time for bed. See you tomorrow.

Real computer

Here's a real computer, the way they used to make them. None of this "desktop" or "laptop" stuff. This thing is a "roomtop." Actually, it's the guidance computer in one of the early blockhouses at Cape Canaveral. Good stuff. I'm so old school, they tore the school down.

Wonders of Blogger today. No time on Friday night - it rained all day and the trip home on a rainy Friday night took three hours and fifteen minutes. I believe that's a new record. I certainly heard a lot of podcasts. By the way, I've been really enjoying some old Nero Wolfe radio shows. They're probably from the early '50s - pretty much the end of the line for radio drama. They're witty and entertaining, and I even can't figure out whodunit within the first two minutes sometimes. I've also been listening to some Hopalong Cassidy westerns, also from the early '50s.

Anyway. When I got home, we had our family birthday dinner and party for Loyal Reader Number One. He'll be seventeen years old tomorrow, but Loyal Readers Numbers Five, Six, and Twelve can't be here then, so we did the party last night. We had a great dinner (chipotle chicken with orange sauce) and a delicious cherry-topped ice cream dessert. LRN1 received some nice gifts too. It was a pleasant evening. But there was no blogging.

That's right, the move is on for this morning! LRN5 picked up the apartment keys last night and we're getting them moved in later this morning. I'm really happy it's worked out, and they'll be delighted to be living closer to work.

It's time for breakfast, so I need to go. See you on Monday.

Hanging around

Here are Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two relaxing on the front porch. Looks like the house already needs a coat of paint.

No post yesterday. It was Meeting Wednesday. I worked late and got home just in time to eat dinner and go to the meeting. I got home from the meeting just in time to go to bed. Ergo, no post. Not a good thing to do to my Loyal Readers, I know, but unfortunately essential.

Loyal Reader Number Four had the Sable at the Midas shop today to get the oil pan worked on again, as mentioned previously. They admitted both the oil pan and the transmission pan were still leaking, were very apologetic, mentioned that the person who worked on the car last time no longer works there (along with various other members of the former staff), replaced both pan gaskets in a few hours, asked us to bring it back in 3,000 miles to get it rechecked, and gave us a coupon for a free oil change. It seems like they're trying to get us to come back. LRN4 is almost convinced. I want to drive the car for a while before I decide.

Good news! The RAZR works with the new Sim card. Nothing to worry about after all. LRN4 is happy with her phone as well.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow. I'm planning to ride the train, thus avoiding the inevitably horrible Friday afternoon traffic. Better wear my waterproof clothes.

It looks like Loyal Readers Numbers Five, Six, and Twelve will be moving into their apartment on Saturday morning. We'll miss them, but we're pleased that they're getting back into their own place. We really hope it works out this weekend.

I'm uber sleepy, so I'm off to bed. See you tomorrow.

Danger

Here are Loyal Readers Numbers Two and Four carefully observing a dangerous situation. Or maybe they're just waiting to see a crash.

Three hour drive to work this morning, offset by an hour-and-a-half drive home. The Law of Commuting Equalization holds (mostly) true once again. Or what was it I called that law? I need to add search to my blog. Maybe later today.

LRN4 is hosting book group this evening. They read Frankenstein this month. There's a pretty big group here right now, and from the sounds of things, they all enjoyed the book. I've never read that particular one myself, my literary tastes running more to non-fiction, but I've heard good things. Besides, I've read the Wikipedia entry, which is pretty much the modern equivalent of the Cliffs Notes. Maybe even better. Anyway, I'm sure my Loyal Readers would agree that Frankenstein is perfect for an October book club meeting.

Our new cell phones arrived today. It turns out that, for technical reasons, I couldn't order new service for Loyal Reader Number Four without getting new phones (and a new 2-year contract, of course) for LRN4 and myself. Sigh. Well, her phone was dying anyway and she had hated it since she got it besides, so maybe her new one will be an improvement. I certainly hope so. I got the free phone for myself, since I plan to switch the new Sim card to my brand-new RAZR as soon as I activate the new service. It had better work, too. If it doesn't, plan B kicks in: I don't think it's too late to return the RAZR to Wal-Mart and get a working one from the dirty rats at AT&T.

There is no cell phone company in America that doesn't deserve to be rounded up and shot in the foot, in my correct opinion.

The Sable seems fine. Mostly. I think. It has its old pep back and the engine seems smoother and quieter than before. Probably just in my head. The throttle is definitely smoother - it had a hitch in its get-along before that seems to be gone now, perhaps because they removed the intake manifold and rerouted cables and such. The brakes are quiet and seem to stop well. All that's great. On the downside, it seems to really be following the grooves on the freeway all of a sudden. I'm guessing they overinflated the tires, which will be more than simple to fix if it's the case. If not, who knows? I'll figure it out.

Other things await me, so I'm off. See you tomorrow.

Artistic pose

Here are Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two engaged in some interpretive dance. Wait, don't tell me. Ummm . . . LRN1 is interpreting an oboe player taking a bow after his second performance at Carnegie Hall and LRN2 is interpreting a giraffe wading in a stream. Nice job, guys!

No post Friday. I forgot. It seemed so much like Saturday that it just slipped my mind. Sorry about that, Loyal Readers. I have no idea how you survived.

Great General Conference over the weekend. I watched all ten hours. I had predicted the new First Presidency member a few weeks ago. It's nice to see that President Hinckley agreed with my judgment.

I finally took a few minutes on Friday morning to re-replace the front brakes on the Sable. I took off the junky Napa brakes - they grabbed excessively and squeaked like crazy - and put on Autozone ceramic brakes. The whole job took only about half an hour and cost just thirty bucks. While I was out for the test drive, the check engine light came on. Sigh. I took it to the Ford dealer and told them to fix it, change the oil, find the oil leak, and put on two new tires. We got it back today. I'll see tomorrow how I like their work, and will finally give the brakes a chance to prove they don't squeal. They discovered the oil leak was in the oil pan gasket, which we paid a exorbitant amount of money to have replaced eleven months ago. We have an appointment on Thursday to have the other shop rework the gasket under warranty. Let's hope for the best.

Otherwise, I didn't get much accomplished over the weekend, what with the conference going on several times a day. Loyal Reader Number Four and I went to the stake adult activity on Friday night. It was a murder mystery dinner, and it turns out to have been based on a Book of Mormon story, which was cute. I suggested that they use an Old Testament story for next year's dinner, but I think that might turn out to be just a bit too violent. Or something.

We had a nice baptism last night - two brothers who are 12 and 13 years old. They seem like really nice boys and are excited to be church members. One of them got his head bonked pretty hard on our unusually small font. That'll be something to remember.

It was perfect top-down weather again this afternoon, and I took advantage of it. The Miata was basically mandatory, given the location of the Sable. I suppose I could have taken the truck, assuming I could afford the gas.

Weather alert! We're expecting rain later in the week and snow up in the mountains at any moment. So the convertible is staying in the garage for a few days.

- Later -

Home Evening is over. We played Chinese Checkers. LRN2 was the victorious conqueror, with LRN4 one move behind. I barely squeaked out third, one move ahead of LRN1. Loyal Readers Numbers Five and Six stopped playing before they figured out who was ahead, so I think it would have been a tie.

Time for treat and bed now. See you tomorrow.

Historic RV

Here's a trailer that's going on the HRVA Real Soon Now. This old wreck veteran survivor is quite a piece of work. It has a great big owner-installed picture window in the back that really sets it apart from most other trailers. I was hoping to find the owner at home and maybe get a tour of the interior but, alas, it was not to be. It will always remain shrouded in mystery.

Cool day today. The wind blew like crazy last night around here, and it was apparently really blowing again today. No wind in my building at work, though. No windows either.

Anyway. It's supposed to be only about 69 degrees tomorrow here in Lardville, start warming back up on Saturday, and be back in the 80's by Sunday. I guess we just have to get used to these harsh Fall days.

Loyal Reader Number One decided to return his iPhone and get a less extravagant communication device. Today was the fourteenth day he had it and therefore his last chance to return it with no questions asked. I think he made the right choice. The iPhone is cool but not cool enough for the money they're charging - certainly too rich for my blood. I like its bling but believe I would quickly tire of it. He can spend about a tenth of the money over the next two years and have a very nice phone with great okay passable service. We'll probably get him a new phone ordered tomorrow, at which time he'll box up the high-zoot one and send it packing for a full refund, less a slight restocking fee.

I'm planning on staying home tomorrow - I worked the last two off-Fridays, so I assume it's my turn to skip. I'm also planning to miss the next off-Friday, so we'll see how my irresponsibility works out. Woo hoo!

See you tomorrow.

Sorry I haven't commented for so long, but life has most certainly been crazy. I'm actually feeling quite excited to get my money back. It was too much, and not cool enough for that kind of a bill. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Wow! That's some irresponsibility! I'm sure you getting a couple of Fridays off (since you ARE supposed to get every other one off!) won't be that irresponsible.

Bear trap

Here's an old bear trap. I wouldn't want to be the one to have to drag this thing out to the woods and release the bear.

Rough drive this morning. In fact, I never completed it. It turns out there were a couple of problems. First, there was a two-semi accident in the middle of Livermore. That had things snarled up pretty badly. Then a pickup overturned a couple of times in Dublin, spilling several bottles of chlorine on the road and breaking them, which caused chlorine gas to waft gently over the freeway. They closed the 580/680 interchange down for about four hours. I waited in the traffic jam for a little more than two hours and finally decided to give it up for the day. Had a nice day at home, although I spent most of it working anyway.

It was meeting night tonight. I have a Sunday baptism to prepare for, so we discussed the plans just a little bit. I have lots of work to do for that one - the full-time missionaries were going to propose an agenda for the meeting, which they decided not to do. So I will. Sigh.

Loyal Readers Numbers One and Two got the best scores on English and Math, respectively, out of their entire school on some test they took last spring. Today they both received little SanDisk MP3 players as a reward. How nice of them to do that. They both have iPods already, but these little things are really cool and will definitely have a use. They come with an easy-to-see screen, a built-in microphone, and an FM tuner and you put music on them just by dragging and dropping from your computer. And they retail for only $40. I haven't played with one yet, but I'm tentatively recommending them. I'll give a full report when I can get one of the Loyal Readers to let me play with his for a little while.

I spent a couple of minutes trying to add a slightly better CSS interface to Waterlogged. I was trying to copy something from the book I'm reading, and it wasn't a perfect fit. I couldn't get it to do anything, though. Maybe I need to restart the Mongrel servers after updating the code. I thought you didn't have to do that with Rails, but I could be wrong, given our setup. I'll have to give it a try one day Real Soon Now.

Time for bed. See you tomorrow.

Clark's Fork campsite

Here are Loyal Readers Numbers One, Two, and Four enjoying their books in our campsite at Clark's Fork.

It's earlier than my usual blogging hour tonight. Got home at about 7:00, worked on the water softener (it won't soften water, which is it primary - indeed, only - function), ate, and sat down to blog. The water softener did some more damage to my already-sore hands. Pity me, Loyal Readers. Hopefully, my sacrifice won't be in vain and we'll start getting some soft water now.

We won't be buying any more GE appliances, that's for sure. So far, we've needed repairs on our brand-new GE refrigerator (twice), dishwasher (twice and it needs it again), stove, microwave, and water softener (I've worked on it myself twice now). I guess the oven is okay. Never again.

It was the perfect afternoon/evening for open-air motoring on the way home today. And I mean perfect. It was clear, completely comfortable, and delightful. I pity all people with roofs on their cars. And I especially pity people with soft tops who didn't have them down tonight. Fall is absolutely the best time for convertibling.

The new charger for my RAZR arrived today. It works fine, so I'm completely happy with the phone now. I'm not completely happy with WalMart, though. Their advertising said nothing about the pathetic, unusable charger that came with the phone. It was reasonable to expect a working, US charger, and they didn't provide it. That's just one more reason why I hate doing business with those people.

But I love my phone.

Time to move on to other things. See you tomorrow.

I didn't know that the Miata was based on the Lotus. Very interesting.

Loyal Reader at work

Here's Loyal Reader Number Twelve helping load the dishwasher - possibly her very favorite activity. Exclusive low-quality RAZR-cam photo courtesy of me.

No time to write about much - Home Evening went a little late, since our activity was in the spa. It sure was nice, though.

Fine weekend. I got a little bit of work done on a few cars - not much more than checking oil and air filters, but at least it was something. Loyal Reader Number Four and I also got the pool and pond filters cleaned. I sliced my finger pretty badly on the pool filter; fortunately, it's healing quickly. I had been hoping to change the Sable's brakes again to try to stop them from squealing, which they've done ever since I put Napa's finest brake pads on. I'm going to switch to ceramic pads and see if they help. Anyway, I decided to put it off for another week due to the injured finger.

More news later. See you tomorrow.

I'll have to send you a picture using the low-quality iPhone cam to use on the blog! I have a few cute ones of Mia.
I need to remember to put the stickers on my car so that I don't wind up like Michael England driving a car with registration stickers that expired 8 months ago.
